Practical Independent, No conflict of Interest Training – 3 Hours
This workshop provides clinicians with a structured overview of scar formation, early prevention strategies, and treatment of established scars in clinical practice.
Scars undergo dynamic changes during the first months after wound healing, with collagen remodelling and scar maturation continuing for up to 6–12 months. Interventions during the early remodelling phase may influence the final appearance and quality of the scar.
The training focuses on practical decision-making, including recognition of early pathological scarring and selection of appropriate treatment strategies for both recent and mature scars.
Learning Objectives
Participants will review:
-
Phases of wound healing and scar maturation
-
Biological mechanisms involved in hypertrophic and keloid scar formation
-
Clinical indicators of abnormal scar development
-
Timing of intervention in scar management
-
Evidence-based approaches for prevention and treatment of scars
Clinical evidence suggests that early management once the wound has closed can help reduce excessive collagen production and improve scar outcomes.
Early Scar Intervention
Discussion of strategies used during the early post-healing phase, including:
-
Monitoring of surgical and procedural scars
-
Identification of early hypertrophic changes
-
Silicone-based therapies and pressure techniques
-
Anti-inflammatory approaches
-
Use of vascular and fractional laser technologies
Early therapeutic approaches may be initiated once epithelialisation has occurred, as scar hypertrophy often develops within the first months following injury.
Management of Established Scars
Approaches to the treatment of mature scars, including:
-
Hypertrophic scars
-
Keloid scars
-
Post-surgical scars
-
Post-traumatic scars
-
Acne scars
Treatment options reviewed include:
-
Laser-based therapies
-
Intralesional corticosteroid treatment
-
Microneedling and resurfacing techniques
-
Combination treatment strategies
-
Long-term scar management protocols
Practical Component
The workshop includes:
-
Clinical case discussions
-
Treatment planning exercises
-
Review of treatment protocols used in aesthetic and dermatologic practice
-
Discussion of complications and treatment limitations
Intended Audience
This training is intended for clinicians involved in skin and aesthetic treatments, including:
-
Cosmetic doctors
-
Dermatologists
-
Plastic surgeons
-
Cosmetic and dermatology nurses
-
Skin practitioners working with laser or scar treatments
